This new clinical laboratory building provides the W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center with the ability to incorporate new robotic testing and handle volume increases. The new building connects two existing buildings with a two story concourse between the public ambulatory entrance and one of the patient wings. It also provides a new front entrance.
The project space planning includes automated core chemistry/hematology, microbiology, blood bank, histology, cytology, and new processes needed for molecular diagnostics. Pathology administration and phlebotomy are also included.
HERA planned the laboratory for adaptability to accommodate the transition from manual to automated processes over time with little disruption.
