Evanston Hospital Clinical Laboratory Renovation

The previous clinical laboratory at Evanston Hospital was constructed in the mid-1970s. Since that time, NorthShore grew from a two-hospital system to a four-hospital system with a very large and geographically diverse medical group. The lab provides inpatient, outpatient, and outreach testing; centralize histology and esoteric testing across the system; and also various teaching programs.

HERA reviewed existing documentation, equipment, staffing and current laboratory space conditions, and compared this data to industry benchmarks. Additionally, HERA developed specimen flow diagrams that applied Lean techniques, outlined automation opportunities, and identified options for swing space. HERA’s space program addresses the laboratory’s required space, location needs related to transportation and logistics, and flexibility for the future.

HERA lab planners are also working collaboratively with the design architect to develop schematic design drawings for the selected locations. HERA is also working with the Program Manager to develop a project budget and phased schedule.
