The hospital clinical laboratory renovation design optimizes staffing and workflow efficiencies and creates flexibility to accommodate future automated systems and process changes. The design includes containment areas, space pressurization, HEPA filtration and monitoring techniques to meet Infectious Control Risk Assessment guidelines. Program elements include specimen processing, core lab functions (general chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood gas), blood bank, special chemistry (toxicology, automated immunoassay, electrophoresis, cytology), microbiology, molecular diagnostics, BSL-3, anatomic pathology, and related lab support. The facility is designed to meet LEED Silver criteria for existing buildings.
