Navy Yard

Master Plan Update

This Master Plan update will expand the vision of the vibrant mixed-use Navy Yard campus, located at a centuries-old naval shipyard in South Philadelphia. The campus includes environmentally friendly workplaces, notable architecture, industrial development, great public spaces, waterfront amenities, improved mass transit and residential development.

The 1,200-acre campus is looking toward the next phase of development to further establish the Navy Yard as a world-class business, manufacturing, R&D and life sciences hub. The development will support the growth and expansion in cell and gene therapy companies through the expansion of R&D, clinical/commercial production and ancillary facilities.

Future development at the Navy Yard continues to focus on creating unique spaces for employment by expanding office and lab space, adding residential development and enhancing ground floor restaurants and retail.

The Navy Yard is committed to high-quality design, historic preservation and sustainability. Currently the campus is home to more than 7.5 million square feet supporting 175 companies and 15,000 employees. Employers include the Urban Outfitters headquarters; GSK’s North American headquarters; Jefferson Health; life science and technology startups; manufacturers; corporate R&D; critical U.S. Navy engineering centers; and a graduate engineering, business and research campus for Pennsylvania State University.

At full build-out, the Navy Yard will support up to 18.5 million square feet of development, 30,000 people and more than $3 billion in private investment.
