The chloride fiber, chemistry and cellulose production labs previously resided on opposite ends of a 100,000-sf long, narrow building. The new, modern, flexible lab space now allow for lean workflow, and provide future expansion capabilities for production.
The client renovated a central location within the facility to co-locate the labs to improve work environment and increase operational efficiency. The co-location stops the transport chemicals across the building between labs, creating a safer environment.
The design incorporates a zoning strategy to encourage a flow to keep areas of chemical usage at the rear of the facility, better isolating office personnel from potential exposure. The zoning strategy also allows for access control to the labs, limiting entrance to designated personnel.
The labs remained in operation throughout the renovation.
