The clinical lab supports a new 200-bed, 5-story community hospital and includes point of care and accessioning; chemistry-hematology; histology; blood bank; and microbiology.
To ensure the final design delivered the intended results, the team discussed wide ranging project goals early in the process. The new lab accommodates target testing volumes, including new services. Lean principals guided the layout to increase operational efficiency and improved testing turn-around-times.
Though the lab currently is not considering automated lines at this time, the space was planned to accommodate automated equipment in the future.
Other project goals included increasing safety & security, improving the workplace environment and accommodating new technologies.
The hospital was delivered using the IPD project delivery method, which took 33 months from the beginning of design to construction completion. The project was completed on budget and earlier than the original schedule.
