The Water Treatment Plant building was built in 1992 and no longer suited the functions of the lab, nor the equipment used. The renovated building ensures test and sample integrity, minimizes potential contamination and meets sustainability goals.
The plant is evolving to use the latest lab technology and the equipment associated with that, which creates efficiencies. The new lab optimizes the layout and improves workflow. The renovation provides a space that can be easily adapted and last for the next 20 years.
Labs include an open analytical organic testing lab, bacteria, metals, volatile, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) lab, chemical oxygen demand (COD) lab, taste and odor, plating room (cell culture), microbiology and shared laboratory support.
The water treatment plant provides testing services and support for the water and wastewater utilities for the city as well as wholesale customers.
The city requires LEED Gold design criteria, but the project will not be certified.
