City College of San Francisco

New STEAM Complex

Designed to serve as an anchor for STEAM learning, this new six-story building replaces existing spaces that have not evolved over the years to serve modern pedagogy.

The replacement facility will include labs for a range of sciences including astronomy/ physics, biology (anatomy, physiology, microbiology), biotechnology (cell culture), chemistry and organic chemistry. In addition, the building will include space for performing and visual arts studies and mathematics.

Each of the labs are programmed the same size to accommodate between 24-36 students and allow for flexibility and change over the life of the building. Using this as a baseline, different prototypes are being developed based upon faculty preference, equipment needs and pedagogy.
