The new four-story building adds biology and chemistry labs, classroom space, lecture halls and a dance studio to the campus. Once complete, the new facility will help the university meet growing enrollment demands.
The interdisciplinary facility will add six biology teaching labs and four chemistry teaching labs to support the colleges of Engineering, Natural and Agriculture Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences.
The labs are the first instructional wet labs built on campus in years and will provide a significant upgrade in technology and design, including better sight lines, easier mobility and increased storage space for equipment and materials.
The building provides classrooms and labs for departments most in need of extra space, as identified through an analysis of major and course enrollments, waitlist data and room scarcity.
Based on student feedback, the design prioritizes study and collaboration areas, which are some of the most-used areas of campus. The fourth floor will help meet this need with a reading room with picturesque views of the campus.
