This new LEED Platinum certified science facility serves seven different disciplines. The facility houses research and teaching laboratories, research and teaching greenhouses, a vivarium and a NMR suite.
HERA worked in a consensus-building manner to develop a phased program. Phase 1 includes teaching labs for biology, microbiology and chemistry, as well as wet research labs for biology, environmental sciences and chemistry. Phase 2 features research and teaching labs for biology, environmental sciences, physics, chemistry, anthropology, psychology and math and computer science. The existing science facility was renovated for administrative and classroom space.
The College’s Plant Sciences Doctoral program is housed in the new facility with 50 PhD candidates conducting research. The new Plant Science Institute and New York Botanical Gardens also call this facility home, while collaborating in research and teaching activities with the College.
