Georgia Tech awarded HERA an “on-call” contract to keep pace with the research needs of several departments. Seven task orders to-date involve approx. 3,500-sf renovations in Howey Building, Boggs Building and Bunger-Henry Building. Spaces have been converted into laboratories for astrophysics, nanoscale matter, pulp and paper and chemistry.
Dr. Mourigal’s research focuses on the study of collective electronic and magnetic phenomena in quantum materials. Searching for new physics, neutron and X-ray scattering is used to probe the organization and the dynamics of matter at the nanoscale. The research spans materials synthesis and characterization, advanced spectroscopy at large scale facilities, high-performance computing and theoretical modeling. Size: 1,900 SF
Yunker lab is in the Boggs Building, a five-story facility housing Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Center for Relativistic Astrophysics, Nuclear and Radiological Engineering, and the Radiation Safety Office. His research in the Physics Department is with soft condensed matter such as colloids, droplets and glasses. Size: 1,200 SF

Task order involved research in the areas of intelligent diagnostic imaging and patient-specific image-guided therapeutics including cancer imaging and diagnosis, the detection and treatment of atherosclerosis, the development of imaging and therapeutic nanoagents, guided drug delivery and controlled release, simultaneous anatomical, functional, cellular and molecular imaging, multi-modal imaging, and imaging-guided therapy. The wet chemistry lab is located on the third floor, east wing of the MS&E building. Dr. Brettman is focused on the preparation and characterized of solution deposited coatings and complex dispersions. The primary procedures include mixing materials, depositing and drying coatings and films and characterizing mixtures and dried coatings. Two spaces were renovated the main wet lab with adjoining characterization lab. HERA also was tasked with bringing the space up to code based on the new use of the space. Size: 1,570 SF
This chemistry lab is located on the second floor, east wing of the MS&E building. Research focuses on the understanding of high refractive index of inorganic/organic hybrid materials of low optical loss. The work also relates to the dielectric materials as well as unraveling the relationship between phase behavior, charge recombination dynamic, and the open-circuit voltage in polymer solar cells. The renovation included two chemistry labs and two lab support spaces. Size: 1,800 SF
Located in the UA Whitaker Building, this lab focuses on the design and fabrication, 3D printing and characterization of biomaterials as scaffolds and implants for tissue reconstruction, in addition to mechanical characterization of biological tissues. Design constitutes multiscale image-based computational design. 3D printing encompasses both nozzle based and laser sintering of biomaterial. The ultimate focus is translation of patient-specific implants and devices. HERA renovated one research lab, two lab support areas and coordinated the installation of existing and new equipment.
